U20 Locomotives – 11 Available

Eleven U20 locomotives are available. Each locomotive is fitted with a GE 7FDL-8 V8, four-stroke, medium-speed diesel engine producing approximately 1,491 kW (2,000 hp) at 1,050 rpm. The propulsion system uses a GE GT601 Series direct-current main generator with an integrated GY27/GY50 auxiliary DC generator, supplying six GE 5GE761 Series DC axle-hung traction motors.

The locomotives have a Co-Co axle arrangement, 1,050 mm track gauge and a 94:15 gear ratio. Maximum speed is 103 km/h, with approximately 213 kN continuous tractive effort. Braking equipment comprises a WABCO 26L automatic air brake package and dynamic rheostatic braking through roof-mounted resistor grids. Coupling equipment includes an Alliance No. 2 coupler with rubber draft gear.

Operating weight is 96 tonnes, with a 16-metric-tonne axle load. Dimensions are 16,860 mm long, 2,743 mm wide and 3,758 mm high. Each three-axle truck has an approximately 3.44 m wheelbase, and wheel diameter is 914 mm when new. Inspection is available by arrangement.
